Jazz Co-operative & Jazz North East present Ellery Eskelin Trio

(I'm sure Paul won't mind me borrowing this from his Jazz Alert - Lance)
“Eskelin could get away with murder. That tone is all the alibi he’d need…incarnating the horn’s romantic tradition while inking fresh initials on its tattooed heart.”
Jazziz Magazine'
(From Paul Bream’s Jazz Alert)
“I couldn't have put it better myself. For more than thirty years New York based Ellery Eskelin has been a leading figure the global improvised music scene, performing, recording and amassing a very personal and utterly distinctive body of work. And yet Ellery has always remained deeply committed to the traditions of jazz and American music, bridging any contradictions with ease. He's not tied to any particular style or idiom, but to an open process of creative development, delivering unadulterated, passionate music with no excuses and no apologies.

Throughout his career he has travelled widely, yet somehow has never previously found his way to Tyneside. Now he finally gets here, leading a wonderfully stimulating Anglo-American trio put together by the Orpheus Project that earlier this year teamed Canadian trumpeter Ingrid Jensen with our very own Andy Champion. This is the final date in a short UK tour, so the trio should by now be a really integrated unit. We've waited a long time for Ellery, and heaven knows when he'll be here again . . . so I urge everybody to get along to the Globe for what seems certain to be an unforgettable night of great jazz.”
Paul Bream.
